The Greatest Reggae Show On Earth Coming To Montego Bay
Well, maybe “The Greatest Reggae Show On Earth” is a bit of an exaggeration, especially if you can remember the heyday of Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytalls and Jimmy Cliff to name just a few of the original Royalty of Reggae. But this years “Reggae Sumfest 2012″ does offer an impressive lineup of talent, including Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, The Mighty Diamonds and Damian Marley.
Now in it’s 19th year, the annual reggae music festival in Montego Bay, Jamaica features our personal favorite – “roots reggae” along with other genres including country, jazz, dancehall, and R&B. This years Reggae Sumfest kicks off with a beach party at Cornwall Beach on Saturday, July 15 with the main event starting on Wednesday, July 19 and carrying through to Sunday, July 22, 2012.
VIP tickets start at $100.00 and top out at $250.00 and include access to the entire 5 day event. For a complete online guide to the event click here and for tips to help you navigate your way through the “Bay” check out The Absolute Travel Addict’s guide.
There are many companies offering custom packages ( Hotel and Event Tickets ) to Sumfest but if you’re like us and prefer to do your own thing, there are a number of wonderful hotels and resorts nearby. Keep in mind that Negril is only a two hour drive, or a very short plane ride, away from the epicentre of what will no doubt be a Wailin’ week of Rocksteady Riddim.
“One good thing about music, when it hits- you feel no pain” – Bob Marley
